Dear Friend,

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is barreling ahead with his plan to spend
$11.3 billion on a new fleet of 165,000 gas-guzzling mail delivery trucks
that will stay on the roads for decades.(1)

These trucks will add to air pollution just as a U.N. report shows how
climate change is devastating our communities.(2) And, DeJoy’s order flies
in the face of President Biden’s directive to have the entire government
fleet go electric.

Despite the passage of the Postal Service Reform Act, Louis DeJoy is still
damaging the post office in myriad ways. Enough is enough. Congress is
considering a bill to stop DeJoy from buying his gas-guzzling fleet, and
Courage California needs you to add your voice calling for it to pass.

[ [link removed] ]Sign on now and tell Congress to block Louis DeJoy’s bad USPS truck
deal!

Currently, USPS vehicles average only 8.6 mpg, a terrible pollutant. The
new vehicles would improve that number by only 0.4 mpg.(3) That's the same
fuel efficiency as a Hummer. Electric trucks, on the other hand, would
save the U.S. Postal Service $4.3 billion and be better for the
environment.(4)

Moreover, DeJoy pushed through the deal with a Wisconsin-based company
based on hiring union workers to make the vehicles, and then the company
immediately moved its operation to South Carolina, where it can hire
non-union employees.(5)

It’s not too late to stop this catastrophic plan.

The bill introduced by Representative Gerry Connolly would prohibit the
USPS from enacting a vehicle contract without the fleet containing at
least 75% electric vehicles. We need to sound an alarm for Congress before
165,000 more polluting trucks are in production.

least 75% electric trucks.

Yours in the fight to save the USPS,

Irene, along with Amber, Angela, Annie, Isidra, Jay, Lindsay, LisaMarie,
Raquel, and Scottie (the Courage team)
