Folks — LGBTQ+ Americans’ fundamental freedoms and civil rights are under attack by Republican governors and state lawmakers.

In Florida, Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is getting ready to sign the “Don’t Say Gay” bill into law which bans teachers from teaching critical lessons about the LGBTQ+ community, sexual orientation, gender identity, and creates an unsafe learning environment. Now, Georgia Republicans are introducing their own version of the bill as well.

And last month, Texas GOP Governor Greg Abbott signed an executive order requiring the Department of Family and Protective Services to conduct intense and invasive investigations of families with transgender children using gender affirming services. It’s a blatant violation of transgender rights and creates a dangerous and misleading narrative around basic health care.

We need to fight back against these draconian measures and ensure that LGBTQ+ youth are given the support and equal opportunity they deserve. No LGBTQ+ American should face discrimination and unjust treatment simply because of who they are and who they love.

Now more than ever, we need to pass the Equality Act so we can guarantee every LGBTQ+ American the full freedom of equality.
