Right now, Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is in the middle of Senate confirmation hearings.

She serves on the second-most powerful court in the country—the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit—and Senators from both sides of the aisle have confirmed her multiple times as a federal judge.

However, during the past few days of hearings, Republican Senators have spread misinformation about Judge Jackson and have come out against Supreme Court cases that legalized contraception, gay marriage, and interracial marriage. They’ve used these hearings to grandstand, with questions steeped in racism, sexism, transphobia, and more… and they may try to delay her confirmation.

Through it all, Judge Jackson has demonstrated grace, brilliance, and patience.

We already knew from her career that she is extremely qualified to serve on the nation’s highest court, but we’re seeing that even more clearly from these hearings. In addition, her nomination as the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court is historic and overdue.
