John -
The New York Times called this moment in time "an inflection point" for the future of fossil fuels.1
The good news is that Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Big Oil's profiteering in the aftermath has made their greed abundantly clear. People are seeing the consequences of our oil dependence in plain sight, how it's fueling violence, and why we must transition now.
The bad news is that many fossil fuel executives are citing the war in Ukraine as proof that their industry is indispensable.
We know that the media will play a major role in whichever story comes out on top in these next few months, which could influence the future of climate policy for years to come.
Fossil fuel companies have PR machines working around the clock. That's why we must double down on our efforts and go on the offense against Big Oil, but we need your help:
We already have evidence that we're winning, John. Here are just a few:
Our movement has worked tirelessly for more than a decade to end the era of fossil fuels. Make no mistake, these developments are a direct result of climate activists around the globe standing up to the greed of Big Oil.
But now it's crucial that we show our strength by getting even louder and bringing even more people into our movement — from those who are frustrated at the gas pump, to the activists who've been sitting on the sidelines, and everyone in between.
In the coming months, we plan to work with global teammates across Europe to hold the line on Russian oil and make the case for a rapid transition to renewable energy now.
We can't let this inflection point be a backslide for our movement. Please chip in $3.50, or anything you can, to help us spread our message and counteract Big Oil's disinformation.
The era of fossil fuels is ending. Period. It's not a question of if we will transition to renewable energy, but when.
Our job as a movement is to make the transition as quick and just as possible, and to ensure that the polluters who are responsible for climate damage are forced to pay the consequences.
Never forget that all of our small actions added together are extremely powerful — and that together, we will win.
Thanks for chipping in what you can.
