I feel privileged to be able to do the work we do here at DAGA.
Hello friend – I’m Michelle Ortiz, Executive Director here at DAGA. I’d like to introduce myself and share a little about the important work our Dem AGs are doing.
Here is why this is particularly important to me. My family grew up in El Paso, Texas on the border of New Mexico and Mexico. We’re of Mexican-American descent, and of all my immediate and extended family members, I was privileged to be the first to attend and graduate from college. I’m beyond grateful that my parents' sacrifice and my 24 years of experience in local, state, and national politics have prepared me to help lead DAGA in this moment.
Democratic AGs work hard to make sure that typically silenced voices are heard around the country. They’re on the front lines, protecting progress on every issue from voting rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, to our reproductive freedom. I’m so proud at this moment as a lesbian Latina – and with so many issues at stake around the country – to be the Executive Director of DAGA, working to elect a diverse group of AGs that I know will continue to protect democracy.
This year presents DAGA with some exciting opportunities and challenges. Midterm years are hard, but when I look at the map, and the talented candidates we have in states like Jen Jordan in Georgia, I’m incredibly hopeful.
And personally, I’m really looking forward to recruiting and supporting women leaders to run for AG offices in more states across the country as part of DAGA’s Women’s Initiative and our commitment to achieving the equality we aim for: 50% of Democratic AGs being women.
We’re grateful for all you do to support us. I look forward to meeting you on the road.
Thank you, and let’s go protect democracy!
Michelle

Democratic AGs truly are “The People’s Lawyers” and DAGA is the only party committee devoted to electing more of them. Since 2016, we’ve won two-thirds of our targeted races, and with more than 30 AG seats up for grabs in 2022, we need your support – will you chip in today?
