You may have heard that Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack are today announcing a special funding package to fast-track improvements to our roads and public transport here on the Gold Coast.

I wanted to let you know this means bringing forward $45 million for M1 Pacific Motorway upgrades from Varsity Lakes to Tugun - so we can fix that bottleneck sooner.

And we'll also be investing in other improvements along the M1 up to Brisbane - which means a faster, safer trip for the many locals who travel that road daily.

This builds on our $1 billion commitment earlier this year and means that work will progress much faster than planned.

To ease congestion we're also bringing forward $62 million for Stage 3A of the Gold Coast Light Rail project, and committing an extra $157 million to back this project.

This funding will deliver more than just the infrastructure itself - it will be an important shot in the arm for the Gold Coast economy and will create hundreds of jobs in the construction phase.

As you know, I have been fighting for this funding on behalf of our community. To have the timetable brought forward is a big win and an example of how the Morrison Government is getting on with the job of delivering.
