John, 12 years ago today, President Obama signed into law one of the most significant pieces of legislation of our lifetimes: the Affordable Care Act. Today, millions more can access the care, prescription drugs and preventative services they need.

But if Sen. Grassley had his way, he would take all of that away. He's repeatedly voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act – and to roll back the law 12 times. His votes pose a direct threat to working class families, women and people with preexisting conditions who all count on the Affordable Care Act for fair, affordable coverage.

With Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, this essential law is safe today – but we cannot sit back and relax. We have to keep on fighting to defend these victories every single day or we could lose them. Just look at the unprecedented onslaught of attacks against Roe v. Wade nearly 50 years after its ruling.

Defending the Affordable Care Act starts with defending our Senate majority. We can do that right here in Iowa, but the GOP is ready to spend millions to stop us. I need you with me. The Affordable Care Act gave health insurance to 31 million Americans and saved thousands of lives. It made sure that insurance companies cannot discriminate against women and the 135 million Americans living with preexisting conditions like cancer and heart disease. 

When we talk about transformative legislation, this is what we mean. We cannot let Sen. Grassley and the GOP take this victory away from American families. I fought to defend protections for preexisting conditions in the House, and now, I'm running for Senate to keep on fighting for it.

You see, if we defeat Sen. Grassley, Democrats will be practically guaranteed to maintain our Senate majority – meaning we'll have the votes we need to keep on protecting the Affordable Care Act. But the GOP already has more than $40 million in the bank to take back the Senate and defeat challengers like me.
