TV ads for both of our Republican opponents are up across the state right now, and frankly, it’s both troubling and embarrassing to watch.

The Republican primary is just constant back-and-forth attacks and mud-slinging between Ted Budd and Pat McCrory. They spend more time debating their loyalties to Donald Trump or Putin than anything else.

It shows us clearly what we should expect not only from them in this race but also what kind of leaders they would be in the U.S. Senate. We know they are focused on parroting a partisan agenda — not the people.

And at the end of the day, McConnell and his super PACs do not care who Republicans nominate. They just want a Republican to keep this seat. They know that FiveThirtyEight has rated this as one of 7 seats that will determine control of the Senate, and they will say or spend anything to win, no matter the cost.
