Councilmember White congratulates Ballou High School Basketball Team on their state championship win!
We would like to congratulate Frank W. Ballou Senior High School for winning the 2021-22 District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) Class A high school basketball championship on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
In a heated battle against our neighbors in Ward 7, Ballou defeated Bard High School Early College DC, 55-54, at George Washington University’s Charles E. Smith Center. Sophomore Lorenzo Martin led the Knights with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
This DCSAA Class A title caps off a season where the Knights had a 17-8 win-loss record. Throughout the season, Ballou showcased the true essence of teamwork as four players (Teriq Johnson, Lorenzo Martin, Demitrius Watkins, and Alfonzo Waynes) each averaged over 10 points per game.
We applaud Ballou for their success on the basketball court with this championship. As a ward and a staff (and personally, as a proud Ballou alumnus), we are extremely proud of these young men, their basketball coaches, and the school’s administration.
