P&O ferries sacking of 800 workers last week should be a wake up call to all of us. If a massive employer like P&O can get away with this type of behaviour - sacking its workforce to replace them with cheap agency labour - it can happen to anyone.

We know there is a huge cost of living crisis. Bills are going up way more than our wages are, benefits have been cruelly cut from those who need them the most and promises around the triple lock on pensions have been broken. Meanwhile, taxes for the rich, such as corporation tax remain pitifully low, but very soon, we will all be made to chip in more for National Insurance.

So what is clear is that the Tory plan to deal with the cost of living crisis is to make us pay yet again. The beaviour of the bosses at P&O and other big companies is a sympton of Tory rule. Anti-union laws strengthen their hand, low corporation tax pays for their mansions and whilst they laugh all the way to the bank, their hardworking staff now face the prospect of poverty and joblessness. The whole system is rigged against us and we need to fight to change it.

For the next wave of our cost of living crisis action, we are working with the RMT union to demand immediate reinstatement of the 800 workers sacked by P&O. Their fight is our fight.

Pay The Rate – Solidarity Rally
Saturday 26th March 2022 – 11am – 1pm
Location: Broadgate – Coventry CV1 1FS

This Saturday Unite the union are bringing together trade unionists to Coventry in support of the HGV drivers who are currently on strike.

Coventry’s HGV refuse drivers just want a fair day’s wage for a hard day’s work. They take pride in their city and the jobs they do.

But Coventry council will not pay their HGV drivers a proper rate for the job. They won’t even work with us to find a way forward. Instead they’d rather attack us in the press and waste council taxpayers’
money hiring agency drivers, than get its own bin workers off breadline wages.

Join us this Saturday as we rally behind the HGV drivers and demand that Coventry City Council #PayTheRate
