In the days before the Texas Standard took to the airwaves, some wondered if there was enough news about the state to fill a daily one-hour broadcast. Now an hour a day hardly seems long enough to squeeze in all the stories that need to be told. Sometimes, when national and international stories eclipse the news agenda, we find ourselves pre-empted on some radio stations. But make no mistake: we continue to track the news (including those national and international stories) from a Texas perspective for our listeners. Sometimes, that means finding a Texas-based expert to help explain what's at stake in a "listener-friendly" context – as Renee Knake Jackson of the University of Houston Law Center did when she offered a thoughtful explainer

on the historic confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson. Similarly, U.S. Rep. Mark Veasey of Fort Worth joined us Monday

to give us insights on U.S. options vis-a-vis Ukraine and President Biden's trip to Europe this week. As pressure builds for an allied-imposed no-fly zone in Ukraine, Veasey declared that such a move would be

tantamount to starting World War III . In the seven years (as of this month) since the Texas Standard launched its daily news program, it's interesting to note how our scope has widened as our audience has grown. Part of that has been to make sure we're serving a growing digital audience who turn to us daily at

our podcasts and this weekly newsletter. Another factor is the changing demographics of Texas, encompassing a larger and more diverse audience than at any time in the past. Our friends at the French Legation have an elegant expression, "plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose", or "the more things change, the more they stay the same." We'll continue to follow our changing Texas landscape with the same commitment as ever, but across a growing variety of channels, exploring new formats and sharing new voices. No matter where the news takes us, you can count on our amazing team of journalists to bring it to you. If you missed any of our coverage, you'll enjoy getting caught up below. Until next week, we'll see you online – and on the air.

Analysis shows mail-ballot rejections soared under Texas’ new voting law

New questions over Abbott border initiative, after troops found stationed at wealthy ranches far from Mexico

“The King Ranch, the Armstrong Ranch: these are massive ranches in South Texas that are wealthy, historical and politically connected. The question that our story raised is … what exactly were they doing there?"

El Paso chef nominated for James Beard Award

Reliance on locally-produced ingredients and a focus on Mexican food culture – plus those house-made blue corn tortillas – earned Emiliano Marentes and his El Paso restaurant ELEMI a spot among the county’s best.

Hey there! Wells Dunbar here, your friendly neighborhood social media editor. You may have seen

some of my handiwork announcing what may be obvious to listeners by now: the Standard’s been pre-empted ‘round much of Texas due to NPR coverage of the Ketanji Brown Jackson confirmation hearings. If all goes according to plan, we hope to return to your local airwaves come tomorrow. But as David noted above, just because we were preempted doesn’t mean we’ve taken a breather. In fact, coming up on today’s show we’ll have a Texas perspective on the KBJ hearings with The Dallas Morning News’ Todd Gillman, who’s been
