John -
In just a moment, I'm going to ask you to pitch in a $3.50 contribution. But first, I'd like to explain exactly why your gift is so important this month. I hope you'll take a moment to hear me out.
In all honesty, my heart dropped when I read the latest IPCC report from the UN climate panel. The report warns that we will hit climate tipping points sooner than we ever thought. These tipping points will cause extreme weather patterns, unlivable heat, widespread disease, ecosystem collapse... It's a future that is devastating to even imagine.
But what makes me even more worried is that unlike previous IPCC climate reports from the UN, this latest report was buried in the news. That means that our movement has to work overtime in the coming weeks before the next IPCC report comes out so that world leaders understand what is at stake for our climate. And the truth is that we are falling behind on fundraising this month by $45,500.
As a strong supporter of 350.org, I want to thank you for all you've done for our movement. Your support is why we are able to rival the fossil fuel industry in the first place.
But the stakes for our climate are only getting higher, and the last thing we can afford right now is to scale back our climate campaigns. So I'm humbly asking you, John:
I know that we ask you a lot, so I wanted to also take a moment to share exactly how we will use your $3.50 and why it really matters this month. Here's what your gift today will help support:
All the fossil fuel industry wants is for us to give up hope. But it is the generosity and support of people like you, John, that give me endless hope that we can beat them. In fact, if every person who has read this far into my email chipped in right now, we'd close our fundraising gap in a matter of minutes.
And that's what makes our movement so amazing. Because while $3.50 may not seem like a lot, when tens of thousands of us come together and decide to take action, there is not a single thing we cannot do. From my family to yours — thank you, John.
