Friend,
Last week, Georgia House Republicans passed another restrictive anti-voter bill based on the same lies and conspiracies of voter fraud from previous elections. The new Republican-backed House Bill 1464 doubles-down on anti-voter tactics that limit the ability of voters—particularly voters of color—to cast their ballot. With the bill now being heard in the Senate Ethics Committee, time is running out to stop this harmful legislation before it gets to Kemp’s desk.
- After SB 202 already limited vote-by-mail options, HB 1464 would limit basic, requisite requirements for voting machines in polling places.
- Only two years after Georgians waited in excruciating 8-hour lines, these changes could dramatically worsen wait times—making it even harder for voters to easily cast their ballot—by removing requirements for adequate voting machines.
- This legislation also risks intimidating voters and election workers, giving the Georgia Bureau of Investigation sweeping new authority that will not help make our elections safer.
Would you donate $10, $25 or $50 today to help us fight other anti-voter bills, such as HB 1464, from passing in other states around the country?
These new HB 1464 provisions are on top of 2021’s SB202, which limited ballot drop boxes, required more voter ID for absentee voting and allowed state takeovers of county election offices. Instead of giving counties the resources they need, Republicans are rushing through a bill to appease conspiracy theorists, dramatically undermining confidence in our elections while doing nothing to make them more secure.
Because of you, Fair Fight Action has mitigated or blocked some of Georgia’s worst anti-voter bills. And thanks to your help, we made SB 202 less harmful by protecting early and weekend voting, voting by mail, automatic voter registration, and repealing discriminatory signature match.
Now, we’re asking for your help again. Are you still in this fight?
In solidarity,
Team Fair Fight Action
