With Labour’s policies for water, energy, rail, Royal Mail and now BROADBAND in public ownership, we’re excited to see how the leaders' debate goes down tonight.

Other parties like the Greens ([link removed]) , Plaid ([link removed]) and the SNP ([link removed]) also have great public ownership policies which we'll be keeping an eye on and sharing during this election.

We're hoping people will feel inspired about public ownership, tonight and over the next few weeks. We'd love it if you could share these arguments online or talk about them with your family and friends?

1) Public ownership will pay for itself

The right wing papers keep screaming that we can't afford nationalisation but it's just not true. Check out this new research in the Independent ([link removed]) with quotes from Cat and Professor David Hall (on the We Own It board) highlighting the fact that public ownership pays for itself in seven years. That’s because we won’t be wasting money on dividends for shareholders, and because borrowing to invest is cheaper in the public sector. This is a great deal for the public purse!

2) Public ownership is the future

We were really excited to see Labour committing to nationalise Openreach and parts of BT last week! It’s the only way we can quickly, cheaply roll out full fibre broadband across the country. Broadband is vital 21st century public infrastructure just like the roads, railways, water and energy networks. With public ownership, we can deliver it for £12 billion less (!), because we won't be subsidising companies like Virgin to cover rural areas.
