There's no better endorsement than “Lindsey Graham doesn’t like us!”

Dear reader,
Did you watch Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court nomination hearings?

On Tuesday, when Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) questioned Judge Jackson, he asked her, “Have you ever had any interaction with a group called American Prospect?” Watch it here:

Let me explain why our pal Lindsey is so upset. He was dead-set on having President Biden nominate Michelle Childs, a judge from his home state. It might have worked, too, until we started reporting about how Childs worked for an anti-union law firm defending employers against discrimination claims, issued a litany of tough-on-crime rulings that were overturned by higher courts, once sentenced a man to 12 years in prison for selling eight ounces of marijuana, and let a powerful lawyer off the hook for killing protected hawks, after testimonials from state officials.

In other words, our reporting helped ruin Graham’s plan of getting his handpicked Supreme Court choice past a Democratic president. And he’s still fuming about it, inferring that we are a “left-wing radical group that [has] destroyed the law as we know it.” He then got so mad he stormed out of the hearing room.

Just for the record, no, we didn’t have any interaction with Judge Jackson when we reported independently on Judge Childs. (That said, if Judge Jackson would like to sit with us for an interview, we’d be happy to accommodate here, though we understand that she’s busy.)

I can’t think of a better endorsement for the Prospect than “Lindsey Graham doesn’t like us!” If you believe in reporting honestly on the things that shape your world, and not being afraid to draw powerful enemies, you can help support this work by becoming a member today.
