Hi Friend,
We want to keep you updated on our evolving response to the war in Ukraine. With the support of this community, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are on the ground in Ukraine and neighboring countries delivering vital aid, and will remain there for as long as they’re needed.
See below for an update from our teams in Palanca, at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border:
MSF teams are in Palanca, at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border providing first assistance to refugees—medical and mental health consultations, as well as basic necessities for people who fled their homes with nothing.
“We have people who have been under bombardment for several days. The fighting has been going on for two weeks now, especially in Mykolaiv, the town from where the most refugees are coming at the moment.” - Dr. Axel Andolfo, MSF medical staff.
So far, more than three million people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries like Moldova to escape violence and access essential health care. In Ukraine, the health system is facing dangerous shortages as medicines and medical equipment are no longer available through usual supply channels. Needs are so great that even large, well-equipped hospitals that are designated to receive injured civilians are overwhelmed by the massive need for care.
In many parts of the country, we are working with medical facilities to help them prepare for what might come next. In Odessa, we have donated medical supplies to hospitals preparing to accept wounded in the event of an attack. In Lviv and Vinnytsia, we are working with local hospitals to help them prepare for mass casualty events and exploring how we can provide water and sanitation support.
Friend, our work is powered by the generosity of supporters like you. One of the best ways you can help sustain our lifesaving efforts is by making a gift.
