John,
I’ve sent you a few emails in the past few weeks about Disney’s abhorrent
silence on the rash of anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-Black history legislation
across the country. Though pressure from Color Of Change members forced
Disney to take important steps to atone for Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay”
bill, Disney has not offered concrete plans to combat the rampant hate
their political donations currently support in other states.^1

Today, Disney’s LGBTQ+ workers and their allies are staging a walkout in
protest of the company’s mishandling of Florida’s recently passed “Don’t
Say Gay” bill.^2 Though many Disney workers are walking out, others do not
feel safe enough to join. Instead, they planned to wear Disney’s
Pride-themed Mickey Mouse pins to show their pride and support for the
walkout; however, workers have revealed that Disney has not allowed people
to wear these pins.^3 Disney directly profits from the LGBTQ+ community
with Pride-themed merchandise but will not allow its own workers to don
their buttons in support of the company’s LGBTQ+ community. This further
proves what Disney and CEO Bob Chapek have shown us over these past few
years: Disney prioritizes profits over people, and the rest of us suffer
for it.
Color Of Change stands in solidarity with Disney’s LGBTQ+ workers and
their allies, who are standing up and walking out in protest against the
company’s funding of hate. Bills like Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill and
Georgia’s recently-introduced copycat legislation will render untold harms
on the LGBTQ+ community; the Black LGBTQ+ community will be hurt most by
bigoted legislation and its corporate enablers.^4
So what can you do, John? Color of Change members like you have
sent nearly 7,000 emails to Disney’s CEO since last week, but we can
always send more. Please take two minutes to send a message to CEO Bob
Chapek in solidarity with his employees. We must demand that Disney stop
funding hateful legislation and do everything it can to stop legislation
like “Don’t Say Gay” and anti-Black history legislation from passing in
other states.
