From Texas to Virginia, states are doing everything in their power to pass the most restrictive voting laws before the midterms. North Carolina recently appealed to the Supreme Court to restore the state legislature's ability to engage in partisan gerrymandering. Over 440 bills restricting voting access were introduced in 2021, with 34 passing in 19 states. These bills do everything from restricting absentee voting and same-day registration to voter list purging.
State legislatures are fighting harder than ever to restrict voting and keep gerrymandering alive so that they get to pick their voters instead of the other way around. That takes away our voice, our freedom to pick our leaders, and political power away from entire communities.
