South Dakota Legislature Honors Warne
It was clear already, but now the South Dakota legislature makes it official: &ldquo;Beverly Warne is a South Dakota treasure and an invaluable elder and leader,&rdquo; reads the proclamation issued by the state&rsquo;s House, praising her contributions to public health. Warne, MSN, RN, is a mentor and coordinator of the Native American Nursing Education Center at South Dakota State University and has worked with the Campaign on mentoring at Alaskan Native/American Indian schools of nursing.

Novelli Recognized for Contribution to Public Health
Bill Novelli, MA, has earned the Outstanding Achievement in Public Health award from Research!America. The award recognizes an individual for their extraordinary work and enormous contributions to public health. For Novelli, the list is long. The professor in the MBA program at McDonough Georgetown served on the Future of Nursing 2010 report committee, was CEO of AARP, and is a member of the Campaign&rsquo;s Strategic Advisory Committee.

Despite Pandemic, Wyoming Nursing Students Teach Tech Skills
Wyoming nursing students were scheduled to teach tech skills to older residents to help them make telehealth appointments. Then COVID-19 hit. The Wyoming Center for Nursing persevered, allowing students of the most-trusted profession teach older Americans to trust, and use, the internet to make appointments&mdash;and more. AARP Wyoming and the Campaign's Nursing Innovations Fund helped make it possible.

In Pa., HBCU Nursing Students Matched With Mentors
In Pennsylvania, a mentorship effort between Lincoln University, a historically Black university, and the Pennsylvania Action Coalition Nurse Diversity Council, means that 21 nursing students will each have a mentor to guide them on the path to success in nursing school and beyond. The mentorship program is one result of a national effort by the Campaign to increase health equity by increasing the diversity of the nursing workforce.

The pandemic has taught us many things, not least the need to transform long-term care. Debra Whitman, AARP executive vice president and chief public policy officer, writes of the death toll in nursing homes and of myriad other problems made clear over the past two years. Those include the disparities in access to health care, and of age discrimination in the workplace.

Caring for Someone Living With Pain: Six How-To Videos
Some 50 million older adults live with pain. Caregivers can find essential information and support from a new series of videos from AARP&rsquo;s Home Alone Alliance. The videos, each a few minutes long, provide tools and tips for communicating with health providers and documenting instances of pain&mdash;as well as ways to make sure you&rsquo;re looking after yourself.

New - HRSA Scholarship Program Accepting Applications
The Health Resources and Services Administration invites nurses to apply to the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum two-year full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent), at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. Deadline: May 5.

Have a direct-service project that supports older adults, and is in pilot stage or is ready to go? AARP Foundation seeks applications for projects in either stage that advance economic opportunity among low-income older adults. The early application process asks would-be grantees to outline how their project reflects a commitment to equity and how outcomes align with AARP Foundation&rsquo;s mission and objectives.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency seeks professionals from all backgrounds and communities to apply for its National Advisory Council.
