Jackson Hearings Begin
As you know, the Senate confirmation hearings for Biden's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, began yesterday. Conservative senators on the Judiciary Committee made it absolutely clear that they would not engage in "slash and burn" tactics and character assassination like the left so often does.
But some on the right have argued that conservatives should not fight Jackson's confirmation at all, that they should just accept it as the president's right to appoint his own people.
That is the old way of thinking in the Swamp, dominated by the consulting class which is almost always wrong. And they're wrong this time, too!
A Teachable Moment
Judge Jackson is a far-left activist. She will be a reliable vote for the continued killing of preborn babies. She is a threat to religious liberty, and she is soft on crime. She will be significantly further left than the liberal justice she has been nominated to replace.
Judge Jackson is an admirer of the 1619 Project, which preaches the poison of critical race theory. The 1619 Project and other CRT advocates claim that our founding fathers were racists, and that our Constitution remains racist.
How can Judge Jackson uphold our Constitution if she believes the big lie of the left that America and our Constitution are racist?
In fact, some critical race theory proponents who have gone so far as to call the Constitution "trash," have spent millions supporting Jackson's confirmation.
"Fringe groups that attack the Supreme Court's legitimacy and want partisan court-packing spent a great deal of time and money promoting Judge Jackson for this nomination. And once nominated, prominent soft-on-crime activists and open-borders pressure groups quickly rallied to her side. The Senate needs to understand why."
But don't take my word for it or Sen. McConnell's. Joe Biden has said repeatedly that his judges will be far-left, pro-abortion radicals, and he delivered on that promise with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Senate conservatives began to expose Jackson's extremism yesterday, and they must continue to do so as aggressively as they can every day these Judiciary Committee hearings take place and every day the full Senate debates her nomination.
This is a teachable moment for the American people, and a major opportunity for Senate conservatives to expose the extremism of today's progressive left.
The Senate is split 50/50, and the odds favor her confirmation. But if Republicans stand united, it will put immense pressure on Joe Manchin and other Democrat senators from center-right states.
It's a long shot, but her confirmation could be blocked. Or, she would join the Supreme Court under a cloud as the only justice ever confirmed on a tie-breaking vote, without a clear Senate majority.
Either way, no Senate Republican should have any role in putting such an extreme left-wing activist on the Supreme Court.
Biden's Selection Process
Joe Biden did something very indicative of the left's desire to inject identity politics into everything, even the Supreme Court. During the 2020 Democrat presidential primaries, he made it absolutely clear that only black women need apply for Justice Breyer's Supreme Court vacancy.
There are already three women on the Supreme Court, one of whom is Hispanic. There is already a black Supreme Court justice. But in order to show how "inclusive" we are, the left insists there must be a black woman, too.
Save this prediction for the future: It won't be long before there are demands to have a justice from the LGBTQ community. And an Asian justice. And a Hispanic male justice. And a Native American justice.
This kind of thinking by the left is what's tearing the country apart. But there is another grave danger here.
You can't satisfy every ethnic group, let alone dozens of genders (that's a joke -- there are only 2!) with just nine justices. So, the demands to make the high court "look like America" will become central to the left's demand to expand the number of justices on the court, i.e., packing the court. And if you oppose packing the court, they will accuse you of being a bigot who opposes "an inclusive America."
We tend to laugh about the left's goofy ideas, but the left is serious about fundamentally transforming the country into something we don't recognize.
Going From Bad To Worse
Last month saw another terrible record shattered for illegal immigration at the southern border. But, believe it or not, Joe Biden's border crisis is about to go from bad to a whole lot worse.
When the Chinese communist COVID pandemic erupted, the Trump Administration quickly imposed an emergency health rule known as Title 42. That rule allows the government to immediately deport anyone caught illegally crossing the border. It is meant to seal the border to prevent sick and unvaccinated people from flooding the country during a pandemic.
Title 42 helped to dramatically control the border in 2020. Predictably, the left has been hammering Biden to end enforcement of Title 42, and the White House has signaled in recent days that it is preparing to do so.
When that happens, the border will be overwhelmed with hundreds of thousands of additional illegal aliens demanding asylum, health care, access to schools and jobs.
So, in a matter of days, we will witness the spectacle of Joe Biden going to Europe to make the case for securing borders in Europe, while the borders of the United States disappear before our eyes.
To our Republican friends consumed with Ukraine: Every time you make the case that Biden should do more to help Ukraine defend itself, you must also insist that if Europe's borders are so important, then we must secure our border, too!
We're spending $14 billion to help Ukraine secure its borders. Why can't we have just a few hundred million to finish our border wall?
Ask Questions
Speaking of Ukraine, I am a fan of "The Five" on Fox News. While watching yesterday's show, I was struck by the remarks of Joey Jones, a Fox commentator and Marine veteran who lost both legs in Afghanistan.
There are thousands of courageous patriots like Jones, and no matter where you stand on the conflict in Ukraine, they have earned the right to have their voices heard. Here's what he said:
"I get really aggravated that I've sat in front of a television camera, now since losing my legs, saying, 'Americans, please ask questions before we get into another war. Please ask for accountability.'
"And if you do that now, I mean, you're in Putin's pocket, right? I mean, come on. There has to be an opportunity for Americans to understand what we're getting into, no matter how righteous the cause."
He's right, of course. Before we stumble into another war under the command of Joe Biden and our current politically correct Pentagon leadership, we need to ask a lot of questions.
Biden's New Order
Joe Biden met yesterday with members of the Business Roundtable. When I first heard about the meeting I thought, "Wow! It's a meeting of everyone who got wealthy off communist China!" But here's what jumped out at me. Biden said:
"I think this [the current global crisis] presents us with some significant opportunities to make some real changes. You know, we are at an inflection point, I believe, in the world economy — not just the world economy, in the world. . . And now is a time when things are shifting. There's going to be a new world order out there, and we've got to lead it."
Well, here we go again.
Rahm Emanuel infamously said, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. What I mean by that is it's an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before." And the Obama/Biden Administration used the Great Recession to expand big government.
When COVID came roaring out of the Wuhan lab, the left exploited it to destroy Trump's presidency and to expand the power of big government.
Now we're in a showdown with nuclear-armed Russia. We're facing foreign policy disasters all over the globe. Our alliances are frayed. Our supply chain is breaking down. And what is Joe Biden saying? "It's time to exploit this crisis, too," for the sake of a "new world order."
