Dear friends,

The word is out: For Sama is a must-see documentary and love letter from a Syrian mother to her daughter as the siege of Aleppo rages around her. Syrian filmmaker Waad al-Kateab lives in London now, but decided to stay in Aleppo—her hometown—during the siege in 2016 and film what she saw.

As the filmmakers note, the story "is both an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war," telling how Waad falls in love, gets married, and gives birth to Sama in an underground hospital room shielded from regime and Russian bombardment.

We at Americans for a Free Syria saw the film at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum with a packed Washington, D.C. audience, and had the opportunity to introduce Waad to lawmakers, including Speaker Pelosi—and we cannot recommend it enough. It's beautiful, sad, hopeful, angering, funny, and inspiring all at once, and should spur all of us to pressure Russia and the Assad regime to #StopBombingHospitals. More at ActionForSama.com.

The film will air tonight and this week on PBS Frontline. Check your local listings and this broadcast streaming link.
