John,
Ketanji Brown Jackson's nomination to the Supreme Court is a step toward righting a long history of injustice. With her confirmation, a Black woman will be forever enshrined as a symbol of power, and will open doors for so many women who will be able to see themselves reflected in our leadership.
But this nomination is so much more than symbolic. The Supreme Court makes decisions that last generations and reverberate throughout history.
The only thing getting in the way is white supremacy.
It's working hard to tear her down, but we can't let them.
Don't get us wrong, we enthusiastically support Judge Jackson's historic nomination. We also recognize that one Black woman Supreme Court nominee, one Black president and one Black woman vice president does not mean that racism no longer exists in this country.
The struggles for equity and racial justice will continue until we can ensure every person, regardless of racial background, has equity of opportunity to the resources they need to thrive.
It is crucial that the next Supreme Court Justice believes in using the law to achieve racial justice –
that person is Judge Jackson.

winning despite a system that is rigged against us is what we've
always done.
As a former public defender and the vice chair of the Sentencing Commission, Judge Jackson not only brings a diverse lived experience, but also a professional background and understanding that will influence decisions and have a massive impact on our society and individual lives. Our country is one step closer to finally getting the justice that is owed and is one step closer to realizing its potential as a truly equitable, representative democracy.
The reality is, it's been Black women who've been on the frontlines fighting for voting rights, ending police violence and expanding access to healthcare, childcare, education and policies that make the lives of Americans better.
