At the start of this Delgado Dispatch, I want to take the opportunity to sincerely thank you for supporting a cause much greater than what is happening in our own communities.

My heart hurts for all of the families broken apart by the carnage of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We cannot stand still and watch death and destruction proliferate in Europe, which is why a few days ago I had asked you to contribute so that we can purchase hot meals and clothing, meet medical needs, find shelter and housing, and more for Ukrainian refugees.

Millions are displaced by Russia’s invasion, and we’ve seen more clear crimes against humanity than imaginable within this month alone. Right now, we need to send love, compassion, and an abundance of resources to Ukrainians whose homes have become caught in the crossfire. If you have not already, please consider making a donation to directly support Ukrainian refugees in this crisis.

Ukraine has been on the minds of my family and many folks around the district. Multiple times at visits with communities I’ve been asked, “what should we do to help?”

Russia’s actions in Ukraine are clear violations of international law and Putin must be held accountable. The United States must use its leadership role on the world stage to move this conflict closer to negotiating peace in Europe.

It’s on all of us to take a stand to denounce Russia’s actions and to provide aid to Ukrainians affected and displaced by this war. More conflict will only tear families further apart and displace loved ones across the globe.

Please keep Ukraine in your hearts and minds during this troubling time for humanity.
