We’ve all heard the old proverb “show me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are.” And today we got a good look at who New Mexico Republicans’ friends really are.
Cowboys for Trump Founder and Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin was found guilty today of trespassing on restricted grounds during the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol. A federal judge ruled that Griffin’s actions endangered the safety of then-Vice President Mike Pence. This comes hot on the heels of other legal trouble for Griffin, who was recently charged with violating the Campaign Reporting Act [[link removed]] .
Despite Couy’s repeated violations of the law, New Mexico Republicans have still refused to disavow his support . This trial showed us once again that so-called leaders like Steve Pearce, Yvette Herrell, and Mark Ronchetti are too cowardly to stand up to rightwing extremists like Griffin, even when they threaten our democracy.
