Does Senator Bennet agree that Guantanamo Bay terrorists should be moved to Colorado?
A leading Democrat in the Senate just suggested it, again
Greenwood Village, Colorado - Colorado GOP Chairwoman Kristi Burton Brown released the following statement today regarding comments made by a leading Senate Democrat who suggested that terrorists should be moved from Guantanamo Bay to Florence, Colorado:

During the questioning of Biden SCOTUS nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson, Illinois Senator and Majority Whip Dick Durbin, said that it would be cheaper to move these hardened terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to Florence, Colorado.

That raises an important question: Does Senator Bennet agree with his Party leader that hardened terrorists should be moved to Colorado?

"Every time Democrats are in control, they suggest moving hardened terrorists to Colorado. Currently Bennet's Party has full control of D.C. and yet Bennet is once again silent. It's time for Michael Bennet to show some leadership and tell Biden and Durbin that we don't want terrorists moved to our state. Bennet has flip-flopped repeatedly on this issue, if Bennet doesn't agree with Durbin, then he needs to call him out publicly and be clear." - Colorado GOP Chairwoman Kristi Burton Brown

Background:

Sen. Bennet has flip-flopped numerous times on voting to allow Guantanamo Bay terrorists to be moved to the U.S. and Colorado.
  • In 2012 and 2013, Bennet voted against amendments that would have prohibited the transfer of terrorists to U.S. based facilities.
  • In 2009, Bennet voted against an amendment that would have barred the construction of facilities to hold Guantanamo terrorists on U.S. soil.
Flip-Flop:

Under Obama, The Defense Department announced that Colorado prisons might be considered for the transfer of Gitmo terrorists.
  • Bennet, who was running for re-election the following year, flip flopped and said he opposed moving terrorists to Colorado. Where does he stand now?
