Water is the source of life, and yet, for 2.2 billion people around the world, access to safe drinking water is in question. For children caught in the crosshairs of climate emergencies, conflict, or famine, securing safe water is another obstacle to their survival.
When the war in Ukraine started less than a month ago, over 7.5 million children were immediately put in the path of danger. As the war continues, hundreds of thousands of people across Ukraine are without safe drinking water due to damage to major water systems. UNICEF continues to scale up operations to ensure the safe and continued access of urgent resources, such as trucking safe water into conflict areas and prepositioning health and emergency education supplies for distribution.
This story isn’t unique to Ukraine – children all over the world must navigate crises just like this one. Access to safe water is crucial, and yet a lack of safe water can trigger an entire chain of emergencies, affecting children in so many ways.
No child should have to worry about when they’ll be able to quench their thirst or have the chance to wash their hands. Safe water is critical for children to grow and thrive. In honor of World Water Day, take a moment today to learn more about safe water and share with your friends and family. |
Thank you for everything you do.
