John,
One year ago today, a gunman in Atlanta drove from spa to spa on a deadly rampage, using an assault weapon to kill eight people, six of whom were women of Asian descent.
Because of this hateful act of violence against the Asian American community, mothers were unable to return home to their children, grandparents were unable to say "I love you" to their grandchildren one last time. Eight lives were cut tragically short and families were changed forever on what should have been a normal day. This is a tragedy that was more deadly because of the use of an assault weapon, a weapon of war.
Gun violence like this isn't inevitable. It's preventable. That's why our team is calling on Congress to take immediate action to ban assault weapons — the weapon of choice for mass shooters from Parkland to Las Vegas — and help save lives. In honor of the lives lost in Atlanta one year ago today, will you sign our petition demanding a ban on assault weapons?

Less than a week after the horrific shooting in Atlanta, another mass shooting — this time at a grocery store in Boulder — killed 10 people. And, these are just the shootings that make headlines. In only a year since, hundreds more have died from gun violence. It's maddening to see mass shootings happen again and again while extremist politicians do nothing to stop it.
The NRA rewards Mitch McConnell and their allies handsomely for blocking any common-sense gun reform — but with gun violence prevention advocates in Congress and the White House, we finally have a chance to ban the weapon of war that has taken so many lives.
One big grassroots push right now could be the difference between signing an assault weapons ban into law or letting it fizzle out. Another moment of inaction could leave more families reeling from a mass shooting, so your response couldn't be more urgent:
Please, sign our petition to ban assault weapons before it closes at midnight tonight.
