Golden Triangle Ambassadors ratify new union contract
Nearly two dozen Block by Block employed ambassadors who keep the Golden Triangle BID clean, help people with directions and set up special events, ratified their first contract with 32BJ SEIU last week. Most workers will see hourly wage increases of more than a dollar an hour, increasing to $18 by 2024. Workers will also receive nine holidays, including Juneteenth, up to four weeks of vacation after 10 years, six days of sick leave per year and three bereavement days. |

Alliance for Justice workers ratify first contract
WBNG members at the Alliance for Justice voted unanimously last month to ratify the first union contract in the organization’s 43-year history. Workers made significant progress on their three top priorities: salaries – especially for junior workers – health insurance and protections against discrimination. They also won improvements in leave, work hours, remote work and other benefits. “The piece I’m most excited about is when we list out what discriminatory behavior can include,” said Aaron True, a member of the negotiating team. The contract says, “Examples of discriminatory behavior include, but are not limited to, excluding, ignoring, sidelining, or belittling staff during meetings, discussions, or decision-making in the course of work, on the basis of a protected characteristic or activity.”

BMA Union at "Guarding the Art" Media Day tomorrow
Baltimore Museum of Art guards, who are organizing a BMA union with AFSCME Council 67, are urging supporters to turn out tomorrow (see Calendar) to support their organizing drive at the "Guarding the Art" media preview day. The show features works from the BMA’s collection, across eras, genres, cultures, and mediums, selected by guest curators from the BMA’s Security department. As guest curators, the officers collaborated with leadership and staff across the museum to select and reinterpret works.
