Amidst the ongoing energy crisis, the government is looking at ways in which it can slash the red tape around nuclear projects. Meanwhile, the informal Nuclear All-Party Parliamentary Group has called ([link removed]) for nuclear energy to be re-classified as ‘green’ - giving it access to renewable energy financing that could go to genuine green alternatives. However, little is said about the financial woes facing companies like the French nuclear firm EDF, or that their latest technology has a reported ([link removed](Reuters),organisation%20said%2C%20quoting%20a%20whistleblower.) design flaw issue in a reactor in China, which could manifest in other EDF projects in the UK, France, and Finland.
Academic expert, Dr Paul Dorfman, will talk about why nuclear power remains a dirty, dangerous, and expensive source of energy. He is an Associate Fellow in the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex; Chair, Nuclear Consulting Group; Member, Irish Govt. Environment Protection Agency; and Member of Radiation Protection Advisory Committee.
