Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation hearings begin for her Supreme Court nomination -- your weekly Indivisible Newsletter

Indivisibles,

We’ve finally arrived!

Today marks the first day of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearings. We are excited to encourage a smooth process for Judge Jackson as the first Black woman and the first public defender ever nominated to the Supreme Court, as well as an inspiring and eminently qualified candidate in her own right.

We’ve had the opportunity today to hear from Judge Jackson herself as she gave her introductory speech. Tuesday and Wednesday will consist of questions from senators on the Judiciary Committee and then Thursday will wrap up the proceedings.

We expect the usual dog-whistle tactics by Republicans in an attempt to undermine her nomination -- we’ve already seen some from Sen. Josh Hawley and Sen. Marsha Blackburn -- but we are proud to be able to support such a uniquely qualified nominee in Judge Jackson. It is not often that we get the opportunity to be a part of history in the making. How are you getting yourself off the sidelines and into the action?

We wouldn’t be Indivisible without some steps to get you activated, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your 4 weekly to-dos

  1. Click here to demand swift confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson if you have a Republican senator. Click here to urge your senator to support Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court if they are a Democrat. Judge Jackson has already been confirmed three times in the past on a bipartisan basis for her previous roles. She is clearly qualified. Call on your senators to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson without delay. And, if you need help, click here to access a resource for pushing back on right-wing lies about the Supreme Court nomination.
  2. Click here to sign up for the Let’s Go Joe Livestream this Wednesday at 6pm EDT/3pm PDT. Learn about the possibilities of executive action from our very own Leah Greenberg along with MoveOn’s Rahna Epting and Reps. Ayanna Pressley, Earl Blumenauer, and Pramila Jayapal.
  3. Click here to urge President Biden to take immediate action on climate. We can not wait to address the climate crisis. Every day that we delay is one more step towards an uninhabitable planet Earth.
  4. Click here to urge President Biden to take immediate action on student debt. Federal student loan interest and repayments have been paused for two years now and, in that time, borrowers are saving approximately $5 billion per month on interest. It’s time we give people permanent relief.

P.S. We rely on your support to keep call pages up and running, fund ads to get the word out, and continue all the work we’re doing this year. If you want to help us in this work, click here to donate.

 National Events

Register here for Spring into Spring with Recruitment on March 29th at 8pm EDT/5pm PDT: Spring is here, and your group may be thinking about holding more in-person events to compliment its virtual ones. You're invited to join this training that will go over recruitment best practices to get current, inactive, and new members to your upcoming events. We'll hear from staff and group leaders, and need your stories of what has worked well for you. Time to brush up on the recruitment skills. Don't miss this training!

Register for the Truth Brigade: Wednesday Workshop and New Member Orientation Wednesday March 23rd at 7pm EDT/4pm PDT: Our regular Truth Brigade call will start 30 minutes later this week so that we can all push Joe -- and then fight disinfo -- at the Let’s Go Joe Livestream. On the fourth Wednesday of every month, join our workshop where we’ll have a new member orientation, "ask me anything!" discussions with staff and disinformation-fighting pros for new and existing members, message workshopping support, and -- maybe most important -- connect with a community of people who care as much as you do about rebuilding a society based on truth and trust. This is also where we launch new Truth Brigade campaigns.

 IndivisiWin of the Week

Arizona Indivisible group Civic Engagement Beyond Voting, the only Indivisible group in Arizona 100% focused on the state legislature, got out to oppose HB2439 and HB2495 in order to support students’ rights to a full and accurate history through their school libraries. Check out the tweet thread here.

We’ve got a big week in front of us. Let’s get a strong groundswell of support for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, remember to sign up for the Let’s Go Joe Livestream, and, as always, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
