John,
I’ll never forget my first big case as a lawyer.
After I graduated from law school, I had job offers to work with the big banks on Wall Street.
I turned them down. Instead, I moved down to Florida to work for several years with the American Academy of Pediatrics on a landmark civil rights lawsuit representing children from low-income families who were unable to access the healthcare services they needed.
I argued in federal court then, and believe in my heart and soul today, that health care should be a civil right in America, not a source of corporate profits and shareholder dividends.
In Florida, our efforts set important legal precedent and made a real difference for working families — and our team was honored to receive the Thaddeus Stevens Award from the Public Interest Law Center in recognition of our work.
Today, the big banks on Wall Street still have a front-row seat at the table in Congress, but working families don’t.
I’m running for Congress to fix that – and put working people’s voices front and center in every conversation in Washington.
That’s why I’m not accepting a dime of corporate PAC money in our campaign for Congress, and instead relying on grassroots support to fuel this effort.
But, it also means we need a lot more individual donors to step up to make sure we have what it takes to share our message with every voter.
So, John, if you’re in this fight with us all the way, I hope you’ll pitch in $5, $10, or whatever you can spare to help us win this thing!
