John —
A few weeks ago, Republicans opposed our efforts to expeditiously pass the CROWN Act — my bill to end race-based hair discrimination. Then I called on you to help build grassroots support in favor of the bill, and now I’m proud to tell you that the act has passed the House!
For decades, Black and Brown people have been penalized at school and in the workplace for wearing natural hair styles deemed as ‘unprofessional.’
I'm pleased that the CROWN Act has passed the House, but now it’s time for the Senate to finish the job and make it law — because it’s unacceptable to be discriminated against for wearing your natural hair in the workplace, in school, or anywhere.
You helped make a difference before, and I’m counting on you to lift up your voice with me again. Add your name to my petition to demand the Senate pass the CROWN Act to end race-based hair discrimination. [[link removed]]

I’m grateful to Rep. Ayanna Pressley, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, and Rep. Gwen Moore who helped get this bill through the House.
Thank you for standing with us,
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
