John, I’m writing with a major update about the future of One America News (OAN) – Donald Trump’s favorite cable “news” channel.
Last fall, tens of thousands of Common Cause members like you urged AT&T to stop giving OAN a platform it can use to spread dangerous election disinformation on a daily basis. And our voices were heard – DirecTV (of which AT&T is a majority shareholder) agreed to drop OAN this April.
Now, OAN is getting desperate. The network knows its financial future is tied to AT&T – and is turning to smear tactics and even a LAWSUIT against DirecTV to try to get AT&T to reverse its decision. [1]
We must urge AT&T to hold firm – and maintain its commitment to protecting our democracy by cutting all ties with One America News. Sign the petition today >>
As April approaches, OAN and its supporters are trying every tactic they can think of to keep the network – and the harmful disinformation it peddles – alive.
Several Republican state attorneys general recently signed a letter to AT&T urging the company to renew its contract with OAN. The letter completely disregards the appalling real-world violence that OAN’s election lies have fueled – like the January 6th insurrection and the ongoing wave of threats against local election officials.
And an OAN host even urged his viewers to dig up “dirt” on AT&T’s board chairman in an effort to ramp up pressure on the company. [2]
We need to make sure AT&T doesn’t waver in the face of this intimidation. OAN is a danger to our democracy – and neither DirecTV nor any other company should profit from spreading this harmful content.
Sign the Petition: AT&T is listening to consumers like you and me! Urge the company to cut ALL ties with OAN.
John, you have already helped make a major impact on the future of OAN. Thank you for speaking out in defense of the truth.
Now, I hope we can count on you to step up again and help us finish this fight.
With thanks for all you do,
Devon Nir, Digital Strategies Manager
and the team at Common Cause
