Chris Nikic made history as the first person with Down syndrome to finish a full IRONMAN race.

Amy Bockerstette, whose catchphrase “I got this” went viral in 2018, became the first athlete with Down syndrome to take part in a national college championship at the National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship in Ormond Beach, Florida.

Melissa Reilly serves as an ardent advocate for people with intellectual disabilities as a global messenger and board member for Special Olympics Massachusetts and in her career working for Massachusetts State Senator Jamie Eldridge.

These athletes, along with 3.2 million others, exhibit the strength, power, and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities (ID). That’s what Special Olympics is all about. Our community is a place where people with ID are no longer defined by what they can’t do. It’s a place where they can connect, compete, and reach their full potential.
