John,
Today, the Senate will begin confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who's on track to become the
FIRST Black woman on the Supreme Court.
In the two centuries since the establishment of the Supreme Court, no Black woman has ever been nominated. Our nation deserves a progressive Black woman Supreme Court Justice – and that time is
now.
White supremacy has stopped Black women from making their way to the nation's highest Court. And while we are on track to right this wrong, we know that the Senate has its own share of white supremacists who will attempt to block Judge Jackson from getting to the bench.
Representation and diversity are prerequisites for a fully realized democracy. With the retirement of Justice Breyer, we have a historic opportunity to finally build this reality and move the needle of justice and equity in the right direction.
Black women have only made our democracy better – it's past time to have representation on the highest court in the country.
It is crucial that the next Supreme Court Justice believes in using the law to achieve racial justice – sign the petition today urging the Senate to immediately confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson.
If nominating and confirming a Black woman to the Court was easy, it would have been done already. White supremacy never shies away, and because of that, this will be hard.
But
winning despite a system that is rigged against us is what we've
always done.
We know the underrepresentation of Black women in the federal judiciary is not due to a lack of talent, but due to racism and sexism among those in power. It is completely undemocratic. It's corrupt, and it's a blatant disregard to our people in this country. We must ensure that the judiciary system reflects the racial and ethnic diversity of our country.
Our communities need a Black woman on the Court who is unafraid to take the fight against white supremacy and wouldn't dare to back down on the fight to pass federal progressive legislation. Ketanji Brown Jackson will show up to do the work for the people and the people only.
John, please fight with us as we band together in support of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Add your name to hold the third branch of government to a new standard. One of equal rights, representation and accountability.
In love and solidarity,
