John,
At the end of 2020, the House of Representatives passed the historic Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act.
At the time, it died immediately in Mitch McConnell's Senate.
But now, with a Democratic House and Senate, we must pressure Congress to pass the MORE Act which would end the federal prohibition and criminalization of marijuana.
Stand with DFA as we urge Speaker Nancy Pelosi to bring the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement Act up for a Vote.
It's past time to decriminalize cannabis at the federal level, expunge low-level marijuana arrests, and begin the process of undoing a failed war on drugs that has been used to criminalize communities of color.
The MORE Act goes beyond ending the federal prohibition and criminalization of marijuana. It also makes several other important changes to federal marijuana policy, including:
- Facilitating the expungement of low-level, federal marijuana convictions, and incentivizing state and local governments to take similar actions;
- Creating pathways for ownership opportunities in the emerging regulated industry as well as other sectors of the economy for local and diversely-reflective entrepreneurs who have been impacted under prohibition through the Small Business Administration grant eligibility;
- Allowing veterans, for the first time, to obtain medical cannabis recommendations from their VA doctors in states that have an established medical cannabis program;
- Removing the threat of deportation for immigrants accused of minor marijuana infractions or who are gainfully employed in the state-legal cannabis industry;
- Providing critical reinvestment grant opportunities for communities that have suffered disproportionate rates of marijuana-related enforcement actions;
We can make this happen. We can take a giant step forward in the fight to end the drug war and begin to repair the decades of damage done by this racist policy… but we can't do it without your support.
Please add your name to stand with DFA as we urge Speaker Nancy Pelosi to bring the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement Act up for a Vote.
Thank you for adding your name!
