Dear OCCRP Reader,

My name is Drew Sullivan and I am a co-founder and the publisher of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). Thank you for signing up for our weekly newsletter. Whether you’ve been reading our reporting for years or are brand new to OCCRP, we are grateful that you’re here.

I want to take a moment to explain a bit about our work and the difference it makes around the world.

The last five decades have seen the dramatic globalization of organized crime and corruption, now totaling trillions of dollars every year. With the help of a “criminal services industry” — corrupt banks, law firms, registration agents, and lobbyists — criminal networks have steadily grown their markets, and the world’s most corrupt officials and tycoons easily loot, launder, and hide stolen money. The result is an unprecedented transfer of wealth and global web of high-level corruption and organized crime that has fueled global inequality, the rise of extremist groups, and the decline of democratic institutions all over the world.

The good news is that OCCRP and the journalists in our network know how to uncover this type of hidden crime. We have our own network to track the criminal networks — organized, coordinated, and cross-border. Using cutting-edge tech tools, expert researchers, and decades of investigative experience, we expose global crime and corruption so people can hold power to account.
