Friend — the anti-LGBTQ+ bills and executive orders that Republicans are introducing and passing in states across the country are a moral outrage.

Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill is awaiting Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ signature and effectively bans teachers from teaching about the LGBTQ+ community, enables parents to sue schools and educators who teach about sexual orientation and gender identity, and creates a hostile, exclusionary environment for children to grow and learn. Georgia Republicans have already introduced a copycat bill.

GOP Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas has issued an executive order directing the state Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate the parents of transgender children for child abuse — now the Texas Children’s Hospital is pausing hormone therapies for transgender children for fear of prosecution.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a law banning transgender student-athletes from competing with their peers.

The Idaho House just passed a bill that would give a lifetime prison sentence to doctors who provide gender-affirming care and the parents of transgender children who agree to that care.

Tennessee and Oklahoma Republicans are attempting to ban books on LGBTQ+ subjects in public schools.

It’s despicable. Draconian. And downright bullying to target LGBTQ+ youth and their parents time and again. Over 150 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced so far this year. It’s March 19th. That’s more than one per day.

Now more than ever, the Senate must pass the Equality Act to protect the constitutional rights of LGBTQ+ Americans nationwide. Add your name to my petition demanding the Senate bring the Equality Act to the floor for a vote.

It makes me sick to my stomach to see adults in positions of power and influence continuously try to make life miserable for LGBTQ+ youth and their parents — running in the opposite direction from the actual need in our country to guarantee equal rights to everyone, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity.

I’ve got to tell you, it really makes my blood boil. And we have to be loud if we’re going to do something about it.
