Before we dive into this month’s organizer spotlights, we want to thank you all so much for your donations last week. The grant applications we are receiving are incredible, and without your support we wouldn’t be able to extend grant opportunities at all. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we support organizers who are reshaping the political ecosystem in our partner states.
Now, on to Women’s History Month! GWP celebrates and uplifts women all year round, but we thought Women’s History Month would be a fun time to spotlight more of the incredible organizers in each of our partner states who are making women’s history of their own every day. These are just a few of the many women making a difference on the ground.
Today we are so proud to introduce you to Kathleen from Alabama and Rachelle from Massachusetts . The first march that Kathleen ever organized (in response to the events in Charlottesville in 2017) drew 150 attendees with only 48 hours notice — incredible! Rachelle is the Outreach Director for Educators for Excellence, a community organizer in her own right, and a freelance photographer — talk about multi-talented!
I’m so inspired by Kathleen and Rachelle, I’m sure you will be too.

"Surround yourself with good people of all ages and backgrounds, and never give up. Anyone can be an organizer - it’s a matter of determination and discipline to be successful. Having a diverse peer network for advice will help you get through the tough spots and understand different viewpoints. I’d also give that same advice to anyone interested in organizing - any age or gender identity. Women do tend to suffer from “imposter syndrome” more often, and I’ve found that having a close circle of like-minded women around for support is reassuring."

[[link removed]]How and where did you get your start as an Organizer?
"My organizing journey started in my hometown of Randolph, Massachusetts. I noticed that there were not enough spaces for residents to come together and connect with one another. I rallied friends, residents, and town leaders to get behind a project to build an intergenerational center. This led to a 3-year campaign of discussions, testifying at town meetings, and hearing from the community about what they wanted out of a new center.
It led to the creation of the first intergenerational center in Randolph and one of the few in the state of Massachusetts."
