There will never be another one like him. We will miss you, old friend.
Wall Street Journal (3/19/22) reports: "Rep. Don Young, the dean of the House of Representatives and the longest-serving Republican in history, has died. He was 88. Mr. Young died while traveling home to Alaska, his office confirmed. His wife Anne was by his side. First elected in 1973 during the Nixon administration, Mr. Young was serving his 25th term. He was well-known for bringing money to Alaska, which he first moved to in 1959, the year it became a state...In Alaska, he first worked in construction and tried commercial fishing, trapping and searching for gold, according to his office. He also taught elementary school and captained his own tug-and-barge operation to deliver products and supplies to villages along the Yukon River. He was the only licensed mariner in Congress, according to his office...The congressman was well-known for being cantankerous and hollering out 'regular order' when a vote went over the allotted time. He was also beloved by lawmakers of both parties who often commended his work for his state...Mr. Young was married to his first wife, Lu Young, for 46 years and had two daughters, Joni and Dawn. Ms. Young died on Aug. 2, 2009. He married Anne Garland Walton in 2015. House Speaker John Boehner was his best man at the wedding, held at the Capitol. It was seen as a sign that the two lawmakers had patched up their relationship. Mr. Boehner, an Ohio Republican, told Politico in 2017 that Mr. Young had once pinned him against a wall and held a 10-inch knife to his throat."
