Dear John,
Huge news!
The first major union to make an endorsement for D.C. Attorney General has announced its decision.
AFSCME District Council 20, the largest public sector union in D.C., is backing Kenyan!
"Councilmember McDuffie has been a fierce advocate for workers in the District of Columbia. He understands labor-management relations and, at the same time, knows that ultimately it is the worker who gets the job done. It is with great pride that we endorse Kenyan McDuffie for Attorney General. We know Kenyan will bring his commitment to workers' rights to the Office of Attorney General. Our members are proud to stand with Kenyan," said Robert Hollingsworth, Executive Director of AFSCME District Council 20.
“At AFSCME we say, 'Serving the public is not just a job, it’s a calling.' Kenyan McDuffie exemplifies our credo. He comes from a blue-collar family and has been a member of a labor union. Kenyan has shown us that he understands the needs of working class families and that those needs cannot be met without the assurance of fairness and justice in the workplace. We know that Kenyan will be a strong advocate for our members, but also for all District residents who roll up their sleeves and get the job done," said Wayne Enoch, President of AFSCME District Council 20 and AFSCME 2401, which represents employees in the Office of the Attorney General.
"AFSCME members come to work everyday, including during these very difficult and challenging times, to build strong, safe, healthy communities. I am honored to have the support of District Council 20. Public service employees are essential to the functioning of our city and the well-being of our residents. As Attorney General, I will ensure that their workplace rights are upheld and defended," said Kenyan.
AFSCME has been a defender of human rights, economic justice and equality for more than 80 years.
Together, we are stronger.
In solidarity,
Team McDuffie
