Hello Friends,
We've got a plan, but we need your help! Project ID Action Fund has its list of target states together for 2022. Let's start with Florida.
We all know Florida has its unique way of doing things, and ID polices are no different. Sure, disabled vets are eligible for free IDs, so are homeless vets, IF they have a 100% disability rating from the VA or can prove that they live in a shelter. If you've ever worked with a veteran who has applied for disability benefits from the VA or tried to help an unhoused person find a spot in a shelter, you know just how difficult the process can be (especially since so many shelters require an ID to get a bed).
So what about FL Vets with a 99% disability rating or less, or those who are living on the street because they don't have the ID that they need to receive services from a shelter?
The laws regarding Vet IDs on the books in Florida are a good start, but so many of our former service members are being left out! You need a state-issued ID to apply for food stamps, housing programs, and even a bank account. We are pushing for FREE IDs for vets in FL, with all fees waived (and not determined by the whims of a county tax collector).
It's time for legislative action and we can't do it without your help!
