The confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Biden’s nominee to be the next U.S. Supreme Court Justice, are expected to begin on Monday.
This is a historic nomination because, if confirmed, Judge Jackson would become the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
Not only have there only been three justices of color in the court’s entire history, but of the 115 justices who have served, 108 have been white men.
Judge Jackson is immensely qualified to become our nation's next Supreme Court Justice with a lifelong career committed to civil rights.
She currently serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and previously served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
She also served as a federal public defender, as well as the vice chair of the Sentencing Commission, where she worked to shape criminal justice policy and reduce sentences for individuals incarcerated for drug offenses.
The Senate has previously confirmed Judge Jackson three times, all with bipartisan support.
Thanks for standing up.
