Hello,
Mitch McConnell has been scrambling to recruit popular GOP governors to run for Senate. There’s just one problem: they don’t seem to have any interest in serving in a Senate led by Mitch McConnell.
Why? Because nothing gets done under Republican control. Take a look:
FIRST, Governor Chris Sununu of New Hampshire said there was too much debate and talk in the Senate. "Nothing gets done. And as I said, sometimes that's considered a win, doing nothing. That's not the world I live in."
THEN, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan also said why he wouldn’t run for Senate: "It's a—big difference going from running a state to being one of 100 people who argue all day and don't seem to get much done."
NOW, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey just gave a similar reason for turning down Mitch McConnell : "These days, if you're going to run for public office, you have to really want the job."
Take it from them: If Republicans take back the Senate, they won’t lift a finger to solve any of the problems families are dealing with today.
Democrats have already passed COVID-19 relief and an infrastructure package, and they can do more if they keep control of the Senate. The climate crisis, racial and economic injustice, and our democracy are on the line in November.
Peter’s always been able to reach across the aisle and deliver results. He learned that the best way to help people is to start by listening to them—and to focus on the solutions instead of who gets the credit. That’s the Vermont way. It’s how he gets things done as Vermont’s congressman. And it’s how he’ll get things done if Vermont elects him senator.
