Record-High Gas Prices Are Hurting Hard-Working Americans
Recently, I led House Republican Leadership and House Energy Action Team (HEAT) members in sending a letter to President Biden laying out specific actions he can take immediately to reverse Russia’s leverage on Europe and the United States. Simply put, President Biden must end his war on American energy and make our country energy secure again.
There is no safer and more environmentally sound way to produce energy than in the United States. Instead of begging foreign dictators to send us their oil, President Biden should turn to American energy production and take money out of Vladimir Putin's pockets so he won't have the ability to fund his barbaric invasion of Ukraine.
President Biden’s anti-American energy policies have now caused American families to pay more for gas than at any other time in U.S. history. Don’t let Washington Democrats try to fool you: The Biden Administration ceded American energy independence to foreign enemies like Russia, causing gas prices to skyrocket for all Americans, and helping finance Putin’s war.
Now is the time to increase domestic energy production. With the right leadership, we can lower energy prices for American families, while replacing U.S. imports of Russian petroleum products with our own resources, and provide our allies with the alternatives they need to also break free from Russian oil.
Meeting With Col. Murphy of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
I recently met with Col. Stephen Murphy, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District, in my Washington, D.C. office. Many areas throughout Southeast Louisiana continue to recover from Hurricane Ida and face continued flood protection needs.
As Congress is beginning to draft and consider the next Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), a bill that authorizes U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood protection projects, I stressed the importance of delivering protection for hard-hit areas and the need for continued work with the Corps on projects like Morganza-to-the-Gulf.
