Right now, there’s so much at stake for women in America.

Power The Movement This Women's History Month - Give Now

Hey John,

I’m Naima Savage, Color Of Change’s Deputy Senior Organizing Director. I’m about to talk about the work I do on the Movement Building team and how you can support it with a contribution today, but first, I’m here to say that superheroes do exist in real life.

My mom is one of them. Not only did she handle raising four kids with grace, but she taught us what it meant to care for our community. Every single weekend, she would wake us all up to go to a march or take some type of action. She set me on the path to my future as an organizer fighting for workers’ rights and voter empowerment in the South, the path that eventually led me here.

This Women’s History Month, I’m celebrating my mother and the millions of Black women like her who are fighting for change and nurturing those around them every day — including the amazing women powering the work of our COC squads across the country.

I’d like to share some of their stories with you all, but first, I have to ask. Our team works with COC members to foster community through service and hold decision-makers accountable on the systemic issues affecting our communities, because big systemic change starts with local action — John, will you consider making a gift of $10 or more to help grow and sustain the movement we’re building?

While I’ve been organizing since I was a child, it doesn’t always come naturally to me. I’m a shy person, and I have to battle that when I’m working to engage as many new folks as I can.

But thankfully, organizing isn’t about any one person — it’s about listening to others and centering the voices of those folks who are most impacted by the issues that we want to address. It’s about making sure that communities feel empowered to fight for and organize for the change they want to see.

And that’s exactly what the Movement Building team is working to do here at Color Of Change. In addition to holding days of service and events like our Black Women’s Brunches to engage folks in conversation and meet their direct needs, we’re working with COC squad members to develop their own organizing and leadership skills. We’re running training programs like our Storytelling Academy to ensure that COC members can harness the power of their own stories to drive change.

When you support the Movement Building team, you’re supporting OG squad members like Sheila and Clovetta Mack — two teachers who first got involved with COC in 2016, and who have been fighting to win reparations for Black students and end the school to prison pipeline in Oakland. You’re supporting real, everyday people who are fighting for change in every region of the country.

So this Women’s History Month, I’m asking you to join me in recognizing and uplifting the efforts of women like them with a gift to support the Movement Building team and our local COC squads. Color Of Change doesn’t take any money from lobbyists or corporations that don’t share our values, so we’re relying on grassroots donors like you — will you chip in $10 or more today?
