Washington Republicans and corporate executives like to blame workers and Democrats for rising costs, but here’s the reality:
Washington Republicans and special interests have blocked our efforts to lower costs for working families at every opportunity.
Democrats are fighting for action in Congress to protect families against high prices here at home, by extending the Child Tax Credit -- the largest tax cut for working families ever -- and lowering the cost of child care and prescription drugs. But every time, Washington Republicans have stood in the way of getting anything done, protecting drug companies and corporate special interests.
At the same time, profits at our country’s biggest corporations topped $3 trillion last year. They could lower their prices -- but they won't. And when Donald Trump and Washington Republicans controlled the White House and Congress, they handed out massive tax breaks to corporations.
Washington Republicans are in the pocket of corporate special interests. It’s nothing new, I’ve been fighting against giving massive tax breaks to Wall Street and Big Oil my entire career.
I recently introduced a bill that would make sure Big Oil corporations, which are raking in massive profits, pay their fair share in taxes and return some of that to taxpayers in the form of a rebate sent directly to Americans who are paying more than ever at the pump.
Mitch McConnell and Washington Republicans are going to keep blaming us because they’ll do whatever it takes to reclaim power in the Senate.
We’re going to stay focused on what matters and that’s lowering costs for families and building an economy that works for everyone, not just Wall Street and big corporations. And today, I want to hear what lowering costs would mean for you and your family. [[link removed]]
