Per the usual playbook of so-called “fiscal hawks” in Congress, they are blaming Social Security and Medicare for record high budget deficits. That’s why we anticipate a return of the dreaded TRUST Act which would create a fast-track, back-door process and commission aimed at cutting your earned benefits.
We’re also hearing opponents of Social Security and Medicare call for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that could force devastating, across-the-board benefit cuts — to balance the budget. (Just last month this dangerous amendment came up for a vote in the Senate and it was narrowly defeated!)
Please support the National Committee’s urgent campaign to put all members of Congress on notice that older Americans will not accept any bill, proposal or amendment that trades benefit cuts for reducing deficits by making a most generous donation of $12, $9 or $5 today!
While we’ve stopped these legislative attacks on your earned benefits in the past, the truth is these threats never really go away. In fact, I fear they could now garner unprecedented support in Congress — across party lines.
