Yesterday, news broke that the United States was reversing decades-long policy that declared Israeli settlements in violation of international law ([link removed]) . This move is disturbing, even for President Trump’s standards: Israeli settlements are illegal, are condemned by virtually the entire international community, and are tactically designed to destroy Palestinian communities.

When I’m elected to Congress, I’ll serve as a voice for human rights. I will continue to challenge the foreign policy status quo that, far too often, disregards the lives of Palestinians and black and brown folks at home and across the world. Can I count on your support? ([link removed])

We know how dangerous this decision is, but don’t expect anything from Rep. Eliot Engel. In Dec. 2016, Engel censured Obama for not vetoing a UN Security Council Resolution that demanded Israel halt settlement activity. When it comes to Israel and the wider Middle East, Engel has largely been in lockstep with the likes of Trump and Netanyahu.

Engel’s leadership as the leader of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs means that he has unparalleled power in Washington, yet his worldview is fundamentally at odds with just, humane priorities, both domestically and internationally.

I’ll take a firm stand against settlements and the occupation, and fight to end military aid to nations that commit human rights violations. Let’s make this vision for American foreign policy a reality: chip into our grassroots movement today! ([link removed])
