Real change doesn’t happen overnight or in one election cycle. It happens when you invest year-over-year in a community. Arizona is a living representation of that.

 

Although Arizona has been in the headlines for the last year and a half, the untold story is the power Democrats are building across the state. The state has gone from a Republican-controlled legislature passing the “Show Me Your Papers” law in 2010, to now being just two seats away in each state legislative chamber from winning Democratic control. 

 

Born and raised in Arizona, I’m proud that Arena has invested in the state since our founding. I’m excited that we're returning to my hometown Phoenix, AZ for our first in-person Arena Academy since 2019.

Supporting and amplifying the work of local organizers and strategists is central to defending our democracy. From the Arena Summit in 2017 and Arena Academy in 2019; to helping Raquel Terán win her State House seat in 2018; to helping inspire now Pima County Recorder Gabriella Cázares-Kelly run for office; Arena has created a space for Arizonans to connect, train, and build power.

 

Arena Academy and long-term local investment are the keys to building progressive political power and winning important races that will have a lasting impact on the lives of everyday people.
